Theodore M. Baum
From the beginning of his career, Theodore (Ted) M. Baum has focused his practice on the construction industry, representing private and public owners, design professionals, general or prime contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, and specialty contractors. Ted also represents sureties in claims arising from construction surety bonds, as well as disputes concerning appeal bonds and probate bonds. Ted also represents parties in other commercial contract disputes, property damage claims, personal injuries, and class action litigation.
Ted successfully prosecuted appeals in both New York State courts and in the federal courts (the Second and Third Circuit Courts of Appeal). Ted also successfully argued a case of surety priority before the New York State Court of Appeals, the highest court in New York. In addition, Ted has tried numerous cases, both bench and jury, to successful conclusions in New York State and federal courts in New York, as well as before arbitration panels. Ted has mediated numerous construction disputes, and is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Construction Industry Arbitrators as well as its Consumer Arbitration Panel, frequently serving as an arbitrator for disputes arising from construction contracts.
